Twist top wine is amazing. Like boxed wine, twist tops were once considered taboo, a sign of bad quality. However, this myth has been dispelled; convenience and quality in one.

Perfect for a picnic, wine on the go, whatever the occasion. Pack the bottle without a corkscrew. A cork does not equal quality. However, if twist tops are not your thing, there are obviously amazing bottled wines!

Twist Top Wine:

Chablis Grand Cru `Réserve de l`Obédience` 2008:

Chablis Grand Cru `Réserve de l`Obédience is a fine, dry Chardonnay with a rich, complex, and buttery nose. The balanced wine is smooth, polished and gentle to the palate leading to a glorious finish. It is excellent to drink on its own or paired with fatty fish.

Domaine Laroche produces this French wine from Chablis, Burgundy. Laroche is the first Burgundian producer to use screw caps on wine bottles. In 2012, this outstanding wine got a silver medal at Vinalies Internationales.

Yalumba, Eden Valley, Viognier, 2016:

This wine is a fragrant Viognier with aromas of rose water, lemongrass, and fresh apricots. It is rich, smooth, and balanced with flavors of peach, and ginger on the long finish. This wine is a wonderful food-wine, perfect for vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters. Works well with spiced dishes and cheeses such as Cheddar, and Gruyere

Yalumba produces this lovely wine in South Australia. Yalumba winery is one of the best producers of Viognier in the country.

Thelema Mountain Vineyards, Sutherland Chardonnay, 2015:

Sophistication is synonymous with this Chardonnay. Thelema “Sutherland” Chardonnay has a polished, pure, intense, toasty nose with hints of citrus and lush fruit. The luscious palate has notes of lime, oak, and peach with a pleasant long finish. This wine pairs well with a caesar salad or cheese.

The South African wine is by Thelema Mountain Vineyards in Elgin. Wine from this region has great depth and a complex flavor. In 2017, the Chardonnay got a silver medal at the TEXSOM International Wine Awards.

Bonny Doon Vin Gris De Cigare, 2015:

The Bonny Doon Vin Gris De Cigare, 2015 is an elegant wine with a subtle, fruity fragrance and pale salmon color, this wine is a perfect drink to have on a warm summer day. This elegant wine is light and crisp with a slight sweetness and hints of cranberry and orange flavor. The nose is subtle with aromas of wild strawberry and honeysuckle. Due to its wonderful persistent finish, this wine is one of the most food-friendly wines. Pair it with chicken dishes or cheese and crackers.

Bonny Doon Vineyard in California makes this wine. Vin Gris De Cigare is a blend of Grenache–Mourvedre grapes.

A balanced, exquisite wine packed full of deep raspberry and strawberry aromas. The palate is fresh and light with hints of pomegranate and cranberry which fade to a nice fruity finish. This is a perfect wine to enjoy on a lovely summer evening.

Camel Valley, Pinot Noir Rosé, Cornwall, 2016:

Reviews describe this wine as a fantastic English Rosé. Its pink color with a slight orange tinge makes the wine very attractive. A balanced, exquisite wine packed full of deep raspberry and strawberry aromas. The palate is fresh and light with hints of pomegranate and cranberry which fade to a nice fruity finish. This is a perfect wine to enjoy on a lovely summer evening, and an amazing twist top wine.

Peter Lauer ‘Barrel X’ Riesling, 2015:

A high-toned, off-dry and complex wine that is mellow, succulent, and fragrant. On the palate, the wine is light, has citrus and green apple flavor with a tropical fruit nose.  A refreshing wine, with a sour finish, it is an impressive crowd pleaser on a summer evening. This wine is excellent on its own or paired with fish or oysters.

Weingut Peter Lauer produces this wine in the Saar region of Mosel in Germany.

The Wine Society Exhibition Hawke’s Bay Red, 2014:

The term “old-world” best describes this light, juicy wine with bold, structured, and firm tannins. Cedar, tobacco, and hints of plum define the nose. The palate is smooth, has peppery spice, and cinnamon flavor. A perfect wine to pair with pepper steak.

The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. Produced by The Wine Society, in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.

Ameztoi Txakoli, Getariako Txakolina, 2015:

With only 10% alcohol content, the Txakolina is a light wine. A fruity wine with bouquets of grapefruit, fresh apples, and a faint scent of peach. The wine is a mix of dry and sparkling wine, which makes it fizzy. The palate has hints of herbs, citrus, and soft minerals with a quick finish. A perfect drink to have with you on a hot summer day at the beach, paired with seafood.

The wine is from Spain’s Getariako Txakolina region. Txakoli Ameztoi makes the wine using the Hondarrabi Zuri grape, a dominant grape in Spain.

Conclusion:

Screw caps are cheap to produce, environmentally friendly and do not taint the wine.
